Richard's Story

Richard is a 45 year old computer engineer. The last few years Richard noticed that his teeth started to crumble at the tops and would occasionally chip. The problem was getting worse and, worried that there might be a more serious underlying issue, Richard came in to the office.
The Diagnosis:
After talking to Richard and observing him, Dr. Lipetsker saw that he continuously grinds his teeth and clenches his jaw. These actions wear down the teeth, leading to the type of crumbling and chipping that Richard complained of. If untreated, the worn down teeth change the angle of the jaw, putting pressure on the jaw joints (TMJ). When the jaw joint is under pressure, it squeezes the nerves that run through it, creating headaches and migraines. Luckily, Richard had not reached the headache stage yet.
The Treatment:
Dr. Lipetsker made some measurements to determine what his the proper physiological alignment was. The proper anatomical alignment is the way the jaw is positioned when the muscles are relaxed. She then created bondings that corrected the height of Richard’s teeth so that they would close in proper position. The bondings also strengthened his teeth so that they would not crumble and made the teeth look nice.
Technical Note:
For patients who experience headaches and migraines as a result of teeth grinding, Dr. Lipetsker adds a procedure where a J5 Miotronic machine is used to relax the spasmed jaw and neck muscles. Once the muscles are relaxed they stop aching, and thus stop the patient’s urge to grind his teeth. A special physiological splint is then fabricated to hold the jaw muscles in their most comfortable position. This is called neuromuscular dentistry.
